As I had mentioned it in one of my earlier blogs, it is easier to critcise and tough to give accolades. Many of you would be thinking that shifting to Doon must have been a nightmare for me. The fact is that I had some wonderful experiences too. So today I am going to do a difficult task. I am going to acknowledge jobs well done.

After shifting to Doon, I stayed with my parents for about a month before I moved into a rental place and about 6 weeks later finalised my own place. One of the first things that a new house needs in India is a LPG gas cylinder connection. And enough people will tell you that it is nightmare to get one. But I had a headstart. I had already got a connection in Gurgaon and was carrying a transfer voucher. Still, most of the people I knew sympathised with me when they realised I was going for a gas connection.

In truth, the Indane dealer, Jagdamba Gas Agency was a delight. He gave me the forms to fill, asked me to get a notarised affidavit and gave me a printed format for the same, accepted my rent agreement and gave me an exact cost. Once I got the notarised affidavit (now, that's definitely another story) he took the money, issued me a receipt and informed me that there will be a slight delay as new regulators are out of supply. As I was moving the next day, my parents neighbour who had an extra cylinder and regulator gave the same to me. The gas dealer immediately despatched a person to assist in connecting the gas.

The regulator took some time to come and my registration also required two visits but the whole experience was far from the horror stories I was being told. I paid not a penny extra, I had no requests for baksheesh and my connection was formalised in a pleasant way. In fact, the cylinder that I was finally given had a leak and it took me just one phone call to have it replaced.

Not only that, when I moved into my own house from the rented place all it took me was a 10 minute visit to the dealer who got me to fill a form and took my residence proof and my address had been changed.

This was surely a delight. Specially as it was from a dealer of a Public Sector company. It clearly beat all experiences of MNCs and Indian giants, some of which I have highlighted in my first blog.

My next good experience was from Tata DoCoMo. I was told that they have the best 3G coverage in town. So off I marched to their showroom. It was again relatively small but well laid out and well maintained. As I was waiting to be served by one of the representative, a female at the counter who was busy with a customer looked up, smiled and asked me how could she help. On listening to me, she quickly offered a seat (no, I don't look my age) and with a smile asked me to wait.

Within 5 minutes she attended to me. Showed me the various offers available, suggested one and also said that I could change later without any hassle if it did not suit me. There was a slight problem with my documentation ( I now carry passport copies, PAN card copies, sale deed copies, photos, my father's address id, my fathers photos....whenever I go for any utility service) but she quickly found a way out, rather than me going back and return with more papers. All the while she was also attending to phone calls, other queries from other customers but had no visible frown or impatience. She dealt with everything calmly and with an infectious positive spirit.

My work done, as I was leaving she gave me her name and mobile number saying that if I had any installation issue I could call her and she will guide me. That's when I realised that she was the Manager of the place. I could not help but ask her a few questions. She belonged to Doon, having studied and done her graduation from a local college. She had joined the company not more than 2 years ago and was now in charge. Her confidence, poise and assured personality impressed me. If such people are the future of our country then we are blessed. To me this was India Shining, acche din were already here. Well done, Deepika.
